Rules and policies

Rules and policies are in place to make sure your child remains safe and well at school.

Visit the NSW Department of Education’s policy library for all current operational policies.

Our school uses the department's School Community Charter to ensure all of our communication is collaborative and respectful.

Attendance and absences

Students must attend school regularly so they can achieve their educational best and increase their career and life options.

In NSW, all children from the age of 6 are legally required to attend school or be registered for home schooling through the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). All students must complete Year 10, or its equivalent and remain in school, employment or training until they turn 17.

For more information about compulsory school attendance, visit:

School frameworks (school rules)

As well as following the department’s operational policies, we have developed frameworks for our students in line with our school’s values and commitments.

Lost property

ALL children’s belongings and clothing should be CLEARLY LABELLED.

Labelled clothing is returned to the classroom for collection. Unlabelled clothing is washed and placed in the clothing pool.

Homework

Teachers will set homework for their students which support class learning programs. The quantity of homework set must be appropriate to the age, individual needs and abilities of the students.

Homework may be given throughout the school on the first four nights of the week. No homework is given on weekends, although assignment tasks and/or reading could be continued.

Whilst homework is not compulsory in Early Stage 1. as Kindergarten it is primarily home reading. Years 1 and 2 being required to practice spelling words as well. Primary pupils are expected to do spelling and reading as well as any other set homework.

All homework is for reinforcement or completion of class work. We encourage homework as it should be regular and seen as a meaningful habit.

Parents should be encouraged to participate in the homework scheme and feel free to enquire about classroom work related to homework.

Medication

If your child is ill please keep him/her at home until well enough to attend class.

Should administration of prescribed medication be needed at school, please hand the medicine to staff at the reception desk. It should be clearly marked with the full name of the child and when and how much should be given. The necessary form for this administration must be completed before it can be given at school.

Under N0 circumstances should children keep pills or medicine in their bags or on their person. Your assistance would be appreciated. Asthma puffers and Epi pens, are exempt. Teaching staff should be made aware of your child’s condition. Any changes of medical condition should be updated at the administration office please.
